Besonderheiten & Herausforderungen
In essence, the works involve a complete renewal of the building envelope down to the structural shell, carried out strictly in accordance with the energy requirements of the EnEV 2016 and the BNB sustainability system.
The main structural and technical measures are organised as follows:
1. Demolition and dismantling works
- Complete outer envelope: the old facade and old roof surfaces are dismantled section by section. Dismantling proceeds in parallel with the new installation so that the building is protected from rain at all times.
- Strip-out: the building is completely stripped back to its load-bearing structure (steel frame of the halls, solid construction of the social wing). The suspended ceiling in the hall, renewed only in 2015, is retained.
2. New facade and roof structures (hall area)
- Sandwich-panel facade: new sandwich wall panels with a mineral-wool insulation core (fire class A1) are installed all around halls 18 to 20. The thicknesses are at least 175 mm (throwing and jumping hall) and 200 mm (running hall) respectively.
- Shed roofs: the distinctive sawtooth roofs of the jumping hall (hall 18) also receive sandwich roof panels with at least 175 mm of insulation.
- Post-and-beam facades (P+B): a single-skin post-and-beam facade is used in the running hall. The surfaces inclined at 65° in the shed-roof area are also built as a post-and-beam construction.
- Ribbon windows: installation of new, thermally broken aluminium window systems in the halls.
3. Facade and fit-out works on the social wing & measurement room
- Curtain facade: the social wing receives a modern rear-ventilated curtain facade (VHF) made of aluminium facade cassettes.
- Main-entrance extension: the main entrance on the west side of the social wing is extended by a small skeleton-frame annexe.
- Facade ladder: installation of a new external ladder on the measurement room for roof access.
4. Glazing and window technology
- Triple insulating glazing: all new glazing is executed as highly insulating triple glass.
- Special glass for the halls: to prevent glare during sport, the hall areas (except the shed roof) receive a glass with a light-diffusing capillary insert and a glass-fibre fleece on both sides. The shed roof and the social wing receive clear glass.
- Fall and overhead protection: glazing in the running hall is designed to be fall- and impact-resistant; in the shed-roof area it is executed as overhead glazing.
5. Mechatronic systems, doors & fittings
- Smoke and heat exhaust systems (SHEVS): the throwing and jumping hall receive mechatronic top-hung windows that open automatically and rapidly in the event of fire (high-speed function), with 24 V rack-and-pinion or integrated drives.
- Anti-panic doors: installation of single- and double-leaf aluminium tubular-frame doors as emergency-exit doors (to DIN EN 1125), fitted with panic push-bars, self-locking panic locks and electronic magnetic opening monitoring.
- Electronic locking system: the entire locking system is equipped with modern, wireless and battery-free electromechanical double cylinders operated by chip key.
6. Colour scheme and surfaces
All visible aluminium profiles, sheet metal and panels receive a durable powder coating. The visual design follows the architect’s specifications:
- Running hall: coatings predominantly in RAL 9006 (white aluminium).
- Throwing and jumping hall: coatings in RAL 9017 (traffic black).
- Shed roof (exterior): standard RAL shade RAL 7016 (anthracite grey).
- Interior: window systems in the hall-keeper’s and seminar rooms in anthracite.
- Fittings/handles: all handles, grips and rosettes are executed in fine matt-brushed stainless steel.
7. Building-physics and additional technical services
- Air-tightness (blower-door test): after installation the building envelope must be extremely tight and must not exceed a strict n₅₀ value of 1.0 h⁻¹ in the test.
- Lightning protection & anti-drumming: facade elements and parapet flashings must be interconnected in a lightning-protection-capable manner. To prevent noise from rain or wind, all sheet metal, window sills and covers are back-coated with at least 3 mm of anti-drumming material.
- Sustainability (BNB): for the main materials (sandwich panels, aluminium claddings), digital evidence must be provided that they meet the specified sustainability quality level 2 (QN2).
