Conversion – day-care centre, Prenzlauer Straße, Hagen II

1. The facade cladding (main area)

• Cladding type: a rear-ventilated external wall cladding (VHF).
• Panels: vertically laid meander panels of anodised aluminium with irregular 90° folds (e.g. product type BEMO-UNIKO MP with 780 mm construction width and 24 mm profile height).
• Colour scheme: the exterior is finished either in blue-silver (anodised E6 G1A) or alternatively in E6 C32 (decision by the client).

2. Insulation and energy efficiency

The refurbishment is carried out to the strict requirements of a KfW Efficiency House 40. A single-layer, hydrophobic mineral-fibre insulation (rock wool) with a black glass fleece is installed in a thickness of 180 mm (thermal conductivity group WLG 035, fire class A1 “non-combustible”). The required effective U-value is 0.18 W/(m²·K).

3. Substructure & structural design

• Main structure: a two-part, adjustable and low-thermal-bridge stainless-steel substructure system with passive-house certification (e.g. TEKOFIX A++).
• The anchoring base is the existing brick masonry (partly with external render).
• A rear-ventilation gap of 65 mm is provided.
• For special areas (e.g. perforated facade parts) a separate horizontal aluminium rectangular-tube substructure is installed.

4. Details, connections & special features

• Perforated facade: over 39 m², aluminium meander profiles with perforated top flanges (perforation pattern Rv 5/8) are used.
• Fire protection: a continuous fire barrier of galvanised steel sheet protects against vertical fire spread in the rear-ventilation cavity.
• Facade bands: drip profiles and window-sill profiles form a continuous horizontal visual line all around.
• Box claddings: large, 3- and 4-sided architectural box claddings of 3 mm thick aluminium enclose the window and entrance-door areas (including an integrated letterbox cut-out for the day-care centre).
• Connections: the package includes all parapet/roof connections (106.5 m), plinth connections, window sills and ventilation profiles.
• Chimney & PV preparation: special thermally decoupled brackets and mounts are fitted to anchor an on-site external chimney pipe (emergency generator) and for later photovoltaic panels.
